HISTORY

We Know Wood County

signing title meeting

Don Roberts Title has deep roots here as Wood County’s longest-tenured title company.

Wood County was still in its early days, when in 1896, Bradshaw Title opened its doors, providing title and abstract services. In 1932, a young Don Roberts began his abstract career in Quitman, Texas, first as the office manager of Reeves Abstract Company and later as a Bradshaw employee in 1945. In 1952, Don purchased the Bradshaw Title business and its substantial archive, creating Don Roberts Abstract Company.

Innovators Over the Years

As technology advanced, Don Roberts was one of the first abstract companies to provide photocopies of surveys, which offered customers a choice of typewritten or less-expensive photographic abstracts. Regardless of the form, the goal was always to provide the customer with an accurate product in a timely fashion.

During this time, much of the research was done in the County Clerk’s office, so a small storefront directly across from courthouse was an ideal location to do business. Today, Don Roberts Title offers three convenient locations in Quitman, Mineola, and Holly Lake Ranch.

Not All Plants are Created Equal

The Plant in the parlance of the title business is a database of records, and with more than 100 years of Wood County records, no one has a more complete archive than Don Roberts, including:

Warranty deeds
Probates
Easements
Abstracts
Property ownership
Deeds of trust
Rights-of-way
Contracts
Name searches

Why does this matter? Comprehensive records lead to accuracy and confidence in each title search. When coupled with the deep knowledge of a team of seasoned professionals, Don Roberts has no peer when it comes to finding every important bit of information on a property. That means less worry and a faster closing.

Note: In 1924, the Wood County Courthouse burned down, and scores of official documents were lost. Bradshaw Title—now Don Roberts Title—retained its own copies of the documents and listings that, after the fire, even the county didn’t have.
